Reverting to the expenditure of

$12,400 from this item which is to be devoted to "Widening

and reforming Des Voeux Road, Kowloon", I enclose a plan

and sections showing how it is proposed to cut down a mass

of rock adjoining Kowloon Marine Lot 81 belonging to

Messrs. Blackhead and Company to enable the road in

question to be widened to 100 feet and formed to the proper

levels where it passes that lot and Kowloon Inland Lot 210.

Messrs. Blackhead and Company have completed the levelling

and reclamation of Kowloon Marine Lot 81 and are now about

to remove their buildings from the portion of Kowloon In-

-land Lot 210 tinted yellow on the plan and to set back

their boundaries in accordance with the arrangement made

when Kowloon Marine Lot 81 was sold to them. It is import-

-ant that the removal of the rock should be proceeded with

at once as there are no buildings now on Kowloon Marine

Lot 81 and the structures on Kowloon Inland Lot 210 are not

of a very permanent nature. Buildings will doubtless be

erected on these lots sooner or later and the removal of

the rock on the adjacent Crown Land would then be attended

with great difficulties which would largely increase the
